Ada Ferrer is Professor of History and Latin American and Caribbean Studies at New York University. She is the author of Insurgent Cuba: Race, Nation, and Revolution, 1868-1898, which won the 2000 Berkshire Book Prize and has been translated into French and Spanish, and Freedom’s Mirror: Cuba and Haiti in the Age of Revolution, which won multiple honors, including the Frederich Katz, Wesley-Logan, and James Rawley Prizes from the American Historical Association, and the Frederick Douglass Prize from Yale University’s Gilder Lehrman Center for the Study of Slavery, Abolition, and Resistance.
